Why is my rabbit aggressive?

Modified on Sat, 29 Nov, 2014 at 9:24 AM

Rabbits can be aggressive for a number of reasons, the most common one being that your rabbit may be territorial.

When unneutered or when moved into a new home, rabbits can become territorial of their cage/hutch.

Working with your rabbit frequently to teach it that you are not a threat can help stop the territorial behaviour.

Another reason is that your rabbit could be very hormonal and should be neutered to stop the aggressive behaviour. In females, phantom (or real) pregnancies can cause territorial behaviour leading to aggression.

Rabbits will often display aggression when they are scared or in pain. Let your rabbit learn to trust you, and take him/her to the vet if you think pain is causing the aggression.
